The EU’s Gini coefficient was 29.2 in 2025, compared with 29.4 in 2024, Eurostat reported on 23 October. The measure describes income distribution: lower values indicate greater equality.

Slovakia recorded the lowest coefficient at 23.0, followed by Belgium at 23.4 and Czechia at 24.0. Bulgaria had the highest at 37.7, ahead of Latvia at 35.6 and Lithuania at 35.5.

The small movement in the EU aggregate does not mean every member state experienced the same change. Nor does this distribution measure establish how much households can afford to buy at current prices.
